Additional IPv4: New Pricing

Infotera Announces 2023 IPv4 Pricing Updates

With IPv4 exhaustion accelerating, Infotera is adjusting prices for extra IPv4 addresses across its product portfolio. These changes reflect current market conditions and will take effect over 2023.

Drivers of Increased IPv4 Scarcity

IPv4 provides around 4.3 billion addresses, which seemed ample decades ago. But with today’s explosion of Internet-connected devices, the address pool is now over 95% allocated. Key factors underlying this growing scarcity:
  • Exponential growth in online machines, from smartphones to IoT. This drives surging demand for IPs.
  • Slow transition to the replacement IPv6 protocol. Most networks still rely on IPv4.
  • Regional registries have allocated their IPv4 supplies. Scarcity is now acute.
This supply-demand imbalance has led to rising prices in secondary markets. Infotera can no longer absorb these increased IPv4 costs.

Infotera’s 2023 IPv4 Pricing Changes

In light of the above trends, Infotera will install the following pricing adjustments:
New Subscriptions
Starting October 6, 2022, new more IPv4 purchases will be priced at:
  • €1.50 per month per address (VAT excluded)

Existing Subscriptions

Legacy pricing will be adjusted across 2023:
  • January 1, 2023: €0.50 per month per address
  • May 1, 2023: €1.00 per month per address
  • September 1, 2023: €1.50 per month per address

So You Start Offers

So You Start servers will see a similar pricing evolution:
  • March 1, 2023: €0.50 per month per address
  • June 1, 2023: €1.00 per month per address
  • September 1, 2023: €1.50 per month per address

Impact on Infotera Products

The following products will be affected by new IPv4 pricing:
  • Bare Metal servers
  • Public Cloud projects
  • Load Balancers
  • VPS
  • So You Start servers
  • vRack
  • Hosted Private Cloud
See Infotera’s announcement for full details on pricing by product.

Encouraging IPv6 Adoption

To provide alternatives, Infotera offers IPv6 connectivity on most products and a Bring Your IP service. We remain committed to supporting customers’ IPv6 transition despite near-term revenue impacts.

Preparing for Continued IPv4 Scarcity

IPv4 addresses will likely continue appreciating as exhaustion persists. Infotera recommends customers adapt via:
  • Gradual IPv6 migration where workable
  • Reclamation of unused IPv4 allocations
  • Use maximization of existing IPv4s
  • Pursuing IPv4 transfers if needed
With careful preparation, businesses can manage the impacts of deepening IPv4 scarcity.
